Sequels are always met with equal amounts of skepticism and excitement. You’re excited to see a sequel of a film but at the same time you know that they’re almost always bad. There are exceptions though.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
This right here is a film that proves a sequel can be, not only great, but way better than its predecessor in every way. Sure we knew what the twist was but it didn’t matter because it took the Captain America storyline to another level, matched with some of the best action scenes of any comic book movie adaptation.

Lethal Weapon (2, 3 & 4)
I’m just putting this here as “Lethal Weapon” because each and every one of the movies in this four-film series is better than the last. Lethal Weapon 4 is my favourite in the series. If you don’t think that counts as a genuine sequel, then go and make your own list.

John Wick Chapter 2
I’m a HUGE Keanu Reeves fan and John Wick was the film that was made for Keanu fans. I didn’t think there was any way that they could beat it but they did. They topped the action and expanded the story behind the assassin’s universe. This was a great sequel and near perfect action film.

Batman Returns
Nolan fanboys can fuck off. Tim Burton’s Batman Returns gave us the two most iconic onscreen Batman villains; The Penguin and Catwoman. I challenge you to find an actor who can play Penguin like Danny Devito. I challenge you to find any actor who can play any comic character the way Danny Devito played Penguin. You hate him, you’re disgusted by him but at the same time he’s so pathetic and sad that you can’t help but feel sorry for him. This film turned the bigscreen Batman film into a real franchise. It’s dark and funny, well-acted, great dialogue and above all…they gave the world Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day
I don’t need to justify this. If you’ve seen this film then you agree with me. If you haven’t, then nobody likes you, everyone hates you, you’re a loser and your mother dresses you funny.
That is all.
I completely agree with John Wick! I dug the first one, but part 2 was a really well done action movie – Even if Keanu’s a little clumsy in some fighting scenes. Awesome scenes. A proper action flick. Loved it!

Nothing more could be said about Lethal Weapon other than just setting the bar everyone. Hope LW 6 is on the horizon…R&M now retired, Butters heading up top cop and he gets paired with a rookie cop… (ala just like the original 2 started out)

That’s a cool concept. Who knows, maybe they’ll run with it.

Sequels are normally never better than the first movies but I loved Happy Feet!

I have to say that 22 Jump Street should get an honourable mention.

Awesome list! ‘Cause I’m a Disney nut I would add Toy Story 2. And Star Wars – TESB.
