RAMZ – TOP 5 BOND MOVIE THEME SONGS

The actor who plays James Bond is discussed more than presidential candidates. Everyone has a favourite (vote for Idris Elba). People get emotional about it and production companies are inundated with letters from fans of the franchise, complaining about things as trivial as James Bond’s hair colour.

The legendary lothario with the code 007, has been loved ever since Sean Connery uttered the name onscreen. We get chills when we hear the iconic Bond theme tune but what everyone waits for is the song that comes with the opening credits.

Below is my list of top 5 Bond theme songs that left me shaken and stirred.

5. Nobody does it better (The Spy Who Loved Me) – Carly Simon

First it needs to be said that Mike Myers was a genius when he used this title for his Austin Powers sequel, The Spy Who Shagged Me. It would probably also have been a more fitting title for a James Bond film.

Carly Simon sings this beautiful song as a love ballad to the man with a license to kill and a government permit to wet panties.

4. Skyfall – Adele

I honestly didn’t see this coming. I knew Adele was a great singer but this dark, moody, gothic performance blew my mind when I heard it the first time. A well-deserved Grammy and Oscar win to accompany a pretty great Bond film.

3. Goldfinger – Shirley Bassey

Rolling Stone Magazine rated this the greatest Bond theme song of all time. Most people would agree and I can see (hear?) why. Dame Shirley Bassey’s vocals are so powerful that she performed theme songs for two other Bond films ie. Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker. The song is incredibly theatrical and presents the opening for something epic that resonates in pop culture decades later.

But I have two other songs that I love even more.

2. Live And Let Die – Paul McCartney & Wings

This is such a great rock song that it doesn’t even need to be attached to a Bond film or an artsy Bond intro theme. Like journalist David Ehrlich said, “This isn’t just good…it’s Beatles good.”

Paul McCartney’s voice hits every note perfectly in a song that has all the elements of a bohemian rhapsody.

1. Goldeneye – Tina Turner

Written specifically for Tina Turner by Bono and The Edge from U2. I love everything about this song and it doesn’t even matter that it was the theme song for a pretty luke warm James Bond. As soon as you hear the first notes, you best believe you’re about to be blown away by some sexy vocals.
