The behemoth mega-corporation that is Disney is on the rampage to turn most of its animated properties into “Real boys”. There’s no denying that the 90’s was the “Golden Age” of Disney animated and is the current crop of films, which they’re harvesting.
With Aladdin’s live-action release imminent, I’m sharing top five favourite Disney animated films.
It have something to do with my fascination with Ancient Greece, or maybe Michael Bolton’s power ballads, but Hercules has always been a favourite of mine. It’s a fun coming-of-age story with a heart of gold and all the brawn to back it up.
4. Toy Story 3
Few films managed to close up a trilogy as well as Toy Story 3 managed to achieve. Yes, it is not the end of the road for the characters with the fourth film releasing later this year. But Toy Story 3, really nailed the story of an audience growing up and slowing letting go. Not to mention, it having one of the saddest scenes which had you bawling before its conclusion.
The film is just an excellent blend of music and breathtaking action set pieces. Not to mention that Mulan is just a badass. She cements herself as one of cinema’s great female protagonists. It’s a film that will always captivate with every rewatch. Let’s hope that the live-action adaption can live up to the expectations.
2. The Lion King
Need I say more?
1. Big Hero 6
Very loosely based on a Marvel property, Disney took a massive gamble with this one. It’s a film that really hits hard in the feels when it needs to, but still retains a charm which keeps you engrossed in the world of San Fransokyo. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and I can’t emphasise how much I love this movie.
