Review

Barry (Guest) – I went into this movie asking myself the question: Do we really need another Transformers movie? Nevertheless, tried to keep on open mind. The movie is visually amazing, and there is definitely enough action to keep you entertained. Hero landings, explosions, chases, fights, and lasers are not in short supply. And the action keeps going because these hyper advanced robots have really, really poor guidance systems and aim.

The lead male character played his role well, the female lead as well although her character motivations made you less invested so it might you feel like she didn’t. That said, both were upstaged by a Porsche. Said Porsche was also the comic relief and was actually funny. Proper funny, not slapstick.

The storyline should not be given too much thought. There are plot holes that you could drive a Unicron through. Said plot/storyline is also littered with tropes that we’ve seen hundreds of times before that, and in many instances were unnecessary. I know they are not aiming at the Oscars but a little bit more effort would have been nice. There were times when the decisions made, for the sake of having a long enough movie, made less sense than giant sentient robots that can turn into cars.

Mirage: The Heart & Soul of this movie

Overall, it was entertaining and that is what you want from the Transformers franchise. It did that well enough to be considered one of the better Transformer movies to date. Not the best, but maybe top 3? Just don’t think about it too hard, and enjoy the ride. 7/10
