IF – Imaginary Friends (2024) – “The Office Reunion”

After discovering she can see everyone’s imaginary friends, a girl embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids.

Review

Tom (Guest) – An imaginative world from the creator and Director, John Krasinski is built on childhood experiences and perceived realities. This story focuses on Bea, played by Cailey Fleming, who experiences life’s cruelty far too early for any child. When she is suddenly forced back into a state of anxiousness years later, she develops the power to see Imaginary Friends (or IFs).

Cailey Fleming plays the role exceptionally as the lead alongside Ryan Reynolds, her grumpy colleague and caretaker of the IFs.

Steve Carell’s best work in years

While the cast’s performance was stellar and concept unique, the story felt emotionally heavy for a whimsical kids movie. Drawn out emotional scenes meant that we were left wanting more of the fun IF characters and magical imaginary world.

Bea’s Dad, John Krasinski, does try to lighten the mood and provide some comedic relief by reminding Bea to ‘go find her story’ in this world.

It’s a sentimental movie that reminds us oldies to stay true to the child at heart! 6.5/10
