Versha (Guest) – A captivating exploration about a couple whose marriage is falling apart. The woman is clearly lonely and frustrated having moved to the countryside and spends most of her days looking after their baby.

The performances in Magpie are nothing short of mesmerizing. The portrayal of Emma is both subtle and deeply affecting. The character has emotional depth, capturing her internal struggle with grace and vulnerability. The supporting cast also deliver standout performances, with Reid portraying a morally ambiguous figure whose connection to Emma’s mother adds layers of tension and mystery.
Magpie is a haunting and thought-provoking exploration of family, memory, and self-identity. With its evocative performances, atmospheric cinematography, and complex narrative, it’s a film that lingers long after the credits roll. While it may be too slow-burning for some, those who appreciate contemplative cinema will find much to admire in this quietly powerful work. Jane Doe has firmly established herself as a director to watch, and Magpie is a remarkable start to what promises to be a promising career in filmmaking. 7.5/10
