Review
The Chairman – Novocaine (2025) delivers an intriguing, suspense-filled and high paced experience. It has an extremely manic atmosphere, which keeps viewers on edge throughout. The performances are solid, with standout roles from the lead cast, particularly in how they capture the psychological turmoil of their characters. The cinematography does a great job of heightening the tension, with some beautifully framed shots that complement the film’s eerie tone.
However, while the narrative is compelling, it occasionally stumbles. Some scenes feel drawn out, and the plot’s complexity may leave certain viewers feeling lost. Additionally, while the film has a strong visual style, it doesn’t always fully capitalize on its potential for deeper character development. As a result, some of the emotional beats feel a bit undercooked, preventing the film from reaching the depth its looking for.
Despite these flaws, Novocaine is still a solid watch for those who appreciate atmospheric thrillers and enjoy piecing together a twisting storyline. Its lingering sense of unease and the lingering questions it poses will keep many thinking long after the credits roll. 7/10
Also, it was filmed in Cape Town…..another reason to watch the movie.
