Starring: Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller & Daniel Brühl
Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) was once a top chef in Paris until drugs and alcohol led to a meltdown that put his career on hold and he retreats to New Orleans to shuck a million oysters as penance. Once he completes this life mission he is back on the cooking scene after moving from New Orleans to London.
Adam gets a shot at redemption when his former maitre d’ (Daniel Brühl) is blackmailed and reluctantly hires him as the head chef of his fine-dining restaurant. Demanding perfection from his newly formed staff (Sienna Miller, Omar Sy), the arrogant and temperamental Jones gets a second chance to fulfill his dream of earning a third Michelin star.
And it’s not whether he get the star or not, it’s how he makes it to this point and lives touched.
Review
“The Chairman” – I personally loves these types of movies, very much like a sports movie. You journey with a character through his/her highs & lows and ultimately a big pay-off/lesson learnt. And this movie doesn’t disappoint!
Bradley Cooper is really turning in some great performances and what seems to be his take on the life of a wayward Gordon Ramsey. His fiery disposition is flirting with abusive, and this coupled with his obsession with perfection makes for a character with complexity and depth you rarely seeing these days.
This movie on a whole does have its flaws, it’s very “paint-by-numbers” and doesn’t delve too far into the early life of Adam. But performance of Cooper and Bruhl definitely make up for this. There is one way to describe this movie, “Food-gasm”. A worthwhile watch, even from the comfort of your home. 7/10
