Flightless birds lead a mostly happy existence, except for Red (Jason Sudeikis), who just can’t get past the daily annoyances of life. His temperament leads him to anger management class, where he meets fellow misfits Chuck (Josh Gad) and Bomb. Red becomes even more agitated when his feathered brethren welcome green pigs to their island paradise.
As the swine begin to get under his skin, Red joins forces with Chuck and Bomb to investigate the real reason behind their mysterious arrival.
Review
“The Chairman” – I wasn’t expecting much from this Gaming App to Movie adaptation, but I was pleasantly surprised. This movie works because the film maker made the decision to concentrate on one bird “Red”, the only bird in this community with any sort of anger tendencies and due to a mishap earlier in the movie Red is ordered to attend anger management classes.
The writing is pretty good, but I think the target demographic (2-14years) won’t appreaciate the adult nature of the jokes. This could actually have worked as a R-rated film, although the box office would seriously have been affected.
The pigs don’t really impact the film. You don’t really care what happens to them or why they are doing what they are doing. It does drag for about 30mins in the middle of the movie, but the last 20-30mins save it. Nothing spectacular, but good enough for a movie about an app. 6.5/10
