Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Childhood friends Conner (Andy Samberg), Owen (Jorma Taccone) and Lawrence (Akiva Schaffer) found fame and fortune after forming the hip-hop group the Style Boyz. Owen and Lawrence faded into the background when frontman Conner left the band to launch a successful solo career.

Now, the egotistical singer decides to film a documentary about his life while he’s still on top. When his second album flops, the camera is there to capture his world come crashing down.

Review

“The Chairman” – Getting ready to sit down to watch this movie. I was very worried that the Lonely Island magic was only meant for SNL Digital Shorts and they wouldn’t be able to translate to full feature, thankfully that isn’t the case here.

Andy Samberg is a comedic genius, he owns the role as a Justin Bieber-like popstar who doesn’t have a clue how the real world works and only lives his life through social media clicks and likes. Sounds a lot like the real Justin Bieber. The remaining members of Lonely Islands, while playing major parts in the movie, don’t steal the limelight and let the insanity ensue around and to them.

The music is out of this world, well-written, clever and strong critique of the currently music industry…a typical Lonely Island product. The music video and the cameos of these videos, including Adam Levine and Pink, are hilarious and as per normal the featured artist starts questioning why they are involved in this mess about half way through. The soundtrack is a must have. #Conner4Real

This is a definite must see if you are fan of Saturday Night Live or Lonely Island, and brace yourself for a limo scene that will have you rolling. 8/10
