Pacific Rim: Uprising – “DUMB & GREAT”

Jake Pentecost is a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous Kaiju.

Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through cities and bring the world to its knees, Jake is given one last chance by his estranged sister, Mako Mori, to live up to his father’s legacy.

Review

“The Chairman” – Giant robots versus monsters from another dimension. Part two is a great sequel to the to the much loved Pacific Rim. Humourous at times, with visual effects that are off-the-charts amazing…

THE DUMB

There is little to no story structure, things happen and you don’t know why or even care.

Very weak human characters, well except for John Boyega. I am starting to think that Scott Eastwood isn’t human, that guy is bland. There is a forced love triangle that seems to be there just so that you can have a Latina choose between a white guy and a black guy. It’s not me being racially tone deaf, it’s the movie.

That’s all the dumb this movie has to offer.

THE GREAT

Well-realised monsters and robots, there seems to have been a lot of effort put into how cool the things in the movie should look and they nail it 100%.

The fight scenes are incredible, this is how a fight between a giant robot and monster should look. Wide angles and slick visual effects.

John Boyega, I have high hopes for this guy as an action adventure superstar. He proves that he is charismatic enough to carry a movie and be the only thing you care about throughout.

In rating this movie, like any movie, you weigh up the story, writing and acting. Not this time though, the story is terrible like a 1/10 but the action and visual effects 9/10 easily. So let’s say, 7/10. This is what you call a popcorn movie and should only be seen on the big screen, go see it in the cinema!

PS. See Transformers, you can have a shitty story and still make a good movie. Take notes!
