Every once in a while, there comes a film that captures the imagination of the masses. It usually leaves so kind of mark on pop culture, or at the box office, but for so reason, it just doesn’t impress YOU. Often you will be cast out of society to wander in exile, forever being judged for your taste in cinema.
Today’s the day I share my five most overrated films/film franchises of all time. This is the hill that I am willing to die on, so bring it on.
5. The Harry Potter Franchise
Being a fan of the books, I was rather excited to see the characters come to life on screen. Sadly, it never lived up to the expectations. Film after film, each one just felt…empty. I’m not saying that they’re badly made, they just lack the magic of the books.
4. Superman Returns
Never had I been more disappointed in a film than Superman Returns. The drama wasn’t compelling in any way and ended up being one of the most boring sequels I’ve ever seen.
3. Titanic
3 hours of waiting for a boat to sink. YAY! Nah, this was boring as hell.
2. Captain America: Civil War
Oh lord, I can hear the MCU fans banging on the door. Civil War was an entertaining film, but just fell flat. The final third of the film just fell flat, with Steve calling Tony like a boyfriend calling his angry girlfriend telling him that they can get together when she’s cooled down.
1. Avatar
Avatar was just a marketing tool to sell 3D. It’s narratively ok, but in no way memorable. I sincerely hope it gets knocked off its perch.

I call “absolute aah” on Avatar – it was an experience that left one moved. It’s been too long since I’ve seen Titanic so I cannot formulate a complete opinion on that one. Agree on Potter and Superman Returns – gees, talk about a missed opportunity.
