Former models Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel find themselves thrust back into the spotlight after living in seclusion for years. Invited to a major fashion event in Rome, the estranged friends are surprised to see how much the business has changed.
Even more shocking is their encounter with Valentina Valencia, a special agent who needs their help. Someone is killing famous pop stars, and it’s up to Derek and Hansel to help save the world’s most beautiful people from a similar fate.
“That Nomad Shad” – I had mixed emotions heading into this film. The original film was such a cult classic comedy. So how does Newlander hold up?
To summarize this review I’m going to compare it to The Hangover and The Hangover 2. It’s more of the same just on a bigger scale. It does suffer the curse of the sequel. I felt the film was always trying to live up to the benchmark set by the original, but just slips short in delivery. This does NOT make it a bad film!
The film has a lot going for it, it’s rich in the comedic elements that made the original so funny. Ridiculousness is the order of the day and they run with it! This may annoy certain moviegoers but commend the filmmakers for sticking to the essence that made the original so great. The downside is that it does come off as campy from time to time.
The film spews cameos from Benedict Cumberbatch to Sting. It’s actually a bit ridiculous, but it’s AMAZING! It adds an authenticity to the complete lunacy that they pitch in the plot. The downside is that we miss out on Kirsten Wiig’s eccentric Alexanya Atoz. It’s a character that could have worked in tandem with Zoolander’s oblivious nature to further the humour. Instead is relegated to the sidelines for necessity’s sake.
While the film falters in places it still remains hilarious, although a tad OTT in places, through the sitting. It’s thoroughly enjoyable and makes an excellent Sunday afternoon watch. 6.8/10
“Storm” – Delightfully facetious and every bit as ridiculous as you think think it will be. ZOOLANDER 2 boasts a star studded cast like you’ve never seen them before. Highlights include performances from beneedict cumberbatch ,keffer Sutherland and Neil DeGrass Tyson. Absolutely hilarious. 8/10
“The Chairman” – Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of the original movie, and I do understand that cult movies are cult movies for a reason. That being said, I really enjoyed this movie….it was everything I expected from a Zoolander movie and cameos my goodness!
Derek and Hansel are such a great team, their idiocy is something to marvel at and you start questioning how they have lived for so long with their brains being so small. I mean evolution should’ve taken them out by now.
For those who are not fans of the original, please avoid this movie….you will hate it. Your rating is 3.5/10
But for the fans, go watch this with glee. ALL is ALL. 7.5/10.
