Molly’s Game – “Tobey Maguire is an @#%hole!”

The true story of Molly Bloom, a beautiful, young, Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons.

Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknown to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led people to believe.

Review

Storm – When watching the trailer, you’ll be forgiven for thinking that Molly’s Game is in some way, a sequel to Miss Sloan. Spoiler Alert: it’s not! What both of these movies have in common is witty dialogue, an air of intrigue, a spectacular demonstration of ingenuity and of course, the exceptionally talented Jessica Chastain (duh!).

Need any more reason to watch Molly’s Game? The movie follows the true-life exploits of Molly Bloom – Poker Princess extraordinaire. The events that are unpacked in this movie actually happened (don’t make the mistake of googling her before you see the movie). Where applicable, names of the characters have been changed to “protect” the privacy of her clientele.

As you get drawn into Molly’s  world, you’ll find yourself immersed in trying to identify exactly which Hollywood superstar she was referring to. You’ll share her frustrations, commiserate in the failures and celebrate her victories. This movie is an all-round goodie -yes I said it! 8/10

  1. Phenomenal performances, Chastain brings out the big guns in this movie. And I’m not only referring to her acting performance… 8/10 spot on Storm!
