That Nomad Shad – Top 5 Worst Castings

The job of a casting director and director is tough when you’re casting for an iconic role, having to please fans and getting the right talent to do the character justice. Many a time fans are not happy with the choices made and there is much backlash. On occasion, an actor may be able to shrug off this negativity and prove the naysayers wrong with a stellar performance à la Heath Ledger’s Joker. But there are the times when nothing goes the way, often detracting from the character and damaging the cinematic adaption. These are the cream of the crop when it comes to bad casting, these actors don’t fit the character and were unable to capture their essence.

5. Jake Gyllenhall – Prince Dastan (Prince of Persia)

I hated the Prince of Persia movie. This loose adaptation of the Sands of Time trilogy just felt very bleh and part of that was Jake Gyllenhall. Don’t get me wrong, Jake is a fantastic actor but what he was given was dull and uninspired. Not to mention, casting a man of Scandanavian origins in the role of a Middle Eastern…nope.

4. Topher Grace – Venom (Spider-Man 3)

Ah, Spider-Man 3. The worst Spidey film put to screen. At the heart of this was one of Spidey’s greatest nemesis, Venom. Topher Grace was cast in the role of Venom’s host, the bullish Eddie Brock. Sadly, Topher never fitted the bill. He doesn’t sell the character as a threat to the Webhead. Even Tom Hardy’s iffy Venom was miles ahead of this iteration.

3. Nat Wolff- Light Turner/Yagami Light (Death Note)

Yet another generic white guy playing the role of a Japanese High School student! Surprise, surprise. To be fair, this was an Americanised version of the narrative, but Nat Wolff captures none of the essence of Light. Light is a calculating sociopath with an enormous God complex, but is simply reduced to a horny teenager trying to impress a girl. Ugh, I hate it so much.

2. George Clooney – Batman (Batman & Robin)

I don’t know what to say. This Batman was the worst. I hated him so much.

1. Justin Chatwin – Goku (Dragon Ball Evolution)

I hated everything about this casting. This is the worst casting choice in existence. Chatwin is not a martial artist and does not vaguely look anything like Goku. He’s performance shows off none of Goku’s personality, he’s just another high schooler that’s trying to get laid. He shows NONE of Goku’s dedication or ambitions to become a powerful fighter. I HATE THIS! I HATE IT SO MUCH!
